Folios 42-43: Robert Hall, HMS Lucifer, Deptford. As requested, he encloses a completed document accounting for the movements of his vessel.
Folios 44-45: enclosure with folios 42-43. Letter dated 20 May 1809 by Robert Hall, HMS Lucifer, Deptford. He announces his arrival with a courier from Cagliari carrying dispatches for the Government. HMS Lucifer sailed from Malta on 29 March 1808 with a convoy under the command of HMS Nettuno. One of the vessels had suffered storm damage and so she was taken to Cagliari. Mr Hill, the British Minister there asked Captain Hall to take a courier to Gibraltar. This he did. He met Admiral Purvis at Cadiz who ordered him to sail to England. The courier is awaiting the ship's release from quarantine, after which he will go into town. He adds that the letters from Admiral Purvis he has transmitted through Admiral Young.
