Folios 550-551: Philip Hue, HMS Actaeon, Liverpool. Responding to Admiralty letter of 14 October, says he finds the young man John Broadbent to be the apprentice as stated, and that as he had never used the sea before the date of his indentures, Hue has discharged him as directed.
Folios 552-553: enclosure with folios 550-551. Letter dated 11 October 1800 by Mr Brownrigg, Horse Guards to the Admiralty, saying that HRH Commander-in-Chief's command is to send him a petition from James Broadbent, and its enclosure.
Folios 554-555: enclosure with folios 550-551. Letter dated 7 October 1800 by James Broadbent, Salford, saying their Lordships will see from the indentures [not now present] that his brother John Broadbent is his apprentice, but deserted him about 15 months earlier to enter on board the Caster, Captain Pearson, for Africa and the West Indies. Upon the Caster's return, as she entered the Mersey, several men aboard her were impressed by the gang, their officer's name being Smith. Asks that his apprentice be released.
