Folios 265-266: Thomas Hand, HMS Tartarus, off Dover. Encloses a copy of his orders from Captain Lawford and is proceeding to Guernsey with the transport vessels Hibberts, Eliza, Harmony, Betsey and Fortitude Success, with Russian troops.
Folios 267-268: enclosure with folios 265-266. Order dated 18 November 1799 from John Lawford, Captain of HMS Romney, appointed to superintend the final evacuation of the Helder, given on board HMS Hecla, Mars Deep, to Thomas Hand, HMS Tartarus. Directs him to take under his protection vessels bound for Guernsey and on arrival to follow the orders of the Senior Officer. If he should be the Commanding Officers he is to proceed to Spithead and report his proceedings.
