Folios 289-290: Charles Grant, HMS Armada, off Toulon. Advises that his Armourer, William Outridge, has invented a machine for stopping leaks under water and which has been tried at Mahon and approved by the Commissioner in Chief who has written to the Admiralty to recommend the machine. Requests the Admiralty directs a further trial of the machine which he believes will be of great public utility. Encloses a drawing of the machines, with a plan and explanation by HMS Minstrel of how it works.
