Folios 81-82: Henry Richard Glynn, Regulating Captain, Poole. Reports the case of James Quintan, said in Mr Garland's letter to the Admiralty to be Mate of the William. He impressed him on Saturday afternoon on board the William. He is 31 years old, has been at sea 8 years before which from a child he was employed fishing. He is a very good Ordinary Seaman. He said he had been on board 3 days. As he was not on the articles, which from a letter from Sir Evan Nepean to Captain Walbeoff is said to constitute a Mate, he did not deem him to be such and sent him fo Spithead.
