Folios 62-64: Henry Richard Glynn, Regulating Captain, Poole. Reports that Samuel Rose was impressed on board the Active on 5 January [1808] by Lieutenant Hiatt. he is 37 years old, has been at sea 16 years. He and 3 others are jointly concerned in fishing, with one of them staying on shore to cure the fish. Encloses his receipt for the sixpences for Greenwich Hospital. Thinking that one boat could not protect 4 men he has sent him to HMS Royal William.
Folios 64-65: enclosure with folios 62-64. Letter dated 6 January 1808 from Joseph Bond to W W Pole. Samuel Rose arrived yesterday from Newfoundland as a passenger on board the Active and was impressed and is now in the Rendezvous. He is a correspondent of his and is engaged in a fishing concern with 3 others and has come to England to pursue this business. He is not a Seaman and has only been to sea as a passenger to and from Newfoundland and as a fisherman. Asks for him to be discharged, and if this is not possible for him to provide a substitute.
Folio 66: enclosure with folios 62-64. Printed receipt dated 24 November 1807 from the Port of St Johns, Newfoundland, recording the receipt from Samuel Rose on behalf of Churchill Isaac, Rose and Davis boat keepers recently arrived from Poole carrying trade atCarpone for 7 shillings and sixpence for the use of Greenwich Hospital for 3 men 5 months on a fishing voyage in 1807. Signed by Lion[e]l Chancey, receiver for the port of St Johns.
