Description

Folios 303-304: Bentick Cavendish Doyle, HMS Lightning, Hamoaze. Forwards a letter he has received from the purser.

Folios 305-306: enclosure with folios 303-304. Letter dated 25 April 1807 by John Geran, [Purser] HMS Lightning, Hamoaze. States that the allowance made for him to supply coal is insufficient and will lead him into debt. He maintains that the size of the coppers in the Lightning do not differ from from any sloop of war [but the allowance is smaller, as for a fireship] In every other respect allowances are calculated as for a sloop of war.
