Description

Prisoner's name: George Topper.

Prisoner's age: 34.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey May Sessions 1830.

Crime: Stealing a coat.

Initial sentence: 7 years' transportation.

Gaoler's report: Not known before.

Annotated: Nil, certificates returned to the prisoner's wife.

Petitioner: George Topper, the prisoner's father, stud groom at Hampton Court.

Grounds for clemency: the prisoner has a wife and 2 children under 6 years and they are expecting a third; obtained a good character serving in the 11th Light Horse; obtained a Waterloo medal and a Portugal medal; sending him abroad would be the death of his wife and mother; encloses certificates.
