Description

3 individual petitions (prisoner, E Woodfield and H Neale) and 1 collective petition (10 people) on behalf of John Woodfield convicted at the Old Bailey in December 1830 for stealing 2 cloaks and 1 hat, value £16 in the house of Mr B B Williams. Grounds for clemency: used to run own business but fell on hard times and lost everything, then went into service where behaved honestly, has family and elderly mother to support. Initial sentence: death commuted to life transportation. Annotated: considered at Report in Council 2 March 1831 nil. NP 45
