1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (16 people) on behalf of Charles Perkins convicted at the Old Bailey in February 1831 for selling counterfeit coins. Gaoler's report: not known here. Grounds for clemency: first offence, previous good character, not convicted for uttering, wife, elderly mother and 4 sisters under 14 all dependent on him and are now destitute, asks for wife to be sent to colony with him, took charge of package without knowing contained counterfeit coins, corroborated by other prisoner James Cartwright, judge questioned how guilty Perkins was at trial. Initial sentence: 14 years' transportation. Annotated: nil. NP 13
