Description (What the record is about)
-
Appendix 6: Copy letter from G. Parker at Chatham Yard to Sir Robert Barlow. Propose the removal of the point constructed by the Ordnance department on the opposite shore for the accommodation bridge and the securing with piles of the point opposite the Gun Wharf and of the points at Catness, Darentness and Ochamness to prevent their washing away and silting up the River Medway. Have observed that any stationary object placed in the river stops the flow of the tide and causes a bank to form. Details examples of where shoaling happens and notes the injurious effect of there being less tidal flow to clean up the river.
Enclosure.
