Description (What the record is about)
-
John Wilson Croker. On the abolition of the office of Civil Architect and Engineer, the Assistant Architect was to be continued under the tile Surveyor of Buildings, under the general direction of this Board. Subsequently you directed that in the first instance, all matters of architecture, mechanics and other sciences, economy, system and arrangement of the dockyards, be referred to a Committee consisting of 3 Surveyors of the Navy. Ask whether the Surveyor of Buildings should similarly be placed under that Committee. Point out the many other duties of the Surveyor of Buildings, which are not directly related to the dockyards. Ask for a decision as to which of his duties should be referred to the Committee.
