John Wilson Croker. You asked us to pay a bill drawn by Mr Mitchell, HM Consul General for Norway, when the account had been furnished, and we advised his agent, Mr Rigg, accordingly. Mr Rigg sent a copy letter received from Lieutenant Colonel Hamilton, Governor of Heligoland, from which it appeared the account in question had been thrown overboard by a gentleman who had taken charge of a Packet from Mr Mitchell,when he thought he was being taken by a Privateer. Later we received, from Mr Rigg, a duplicate letter and account from Mr Mitchell. The deficiency in the account is the names of the men and the attestation of 2 merchants to the account. Ask whether the bill should be paid.
