Folios 116-117. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to William Powell, Clerk to the Guardians of the Newport Pagnell Poor Law Union, stating that they have received the report of Robert Weale, Poor Law Inspector following his inspection of the union workhouse on 10 September in which he stated that the visiting committee do not regularly inspect the workhouse. The Commission consider the constant superintendence of the guardians and visiting officers to be indispensable for the proper management of the union workhouse, and they request that weekly visits by the visiting committee should be made. The guardians are referred to Article 149 of the Commission's General Order of 24 July. Paper Number: 14482/A/1847.
