Description (What the record is about)
-
William Marsden. The agent to Lieutenant William Charlton has asked to be paid without passing an account for the times he acted as Captain of the ships, St. Albans, Leyden and Pegasus. The records do not show him on the books of the St. Albans and no books have been received for the Pegasus to show whether he was borne on that ship. He is borne on the Leyden from March to June 1804 as acting Captain but he was discharged in July. As the proper Captain was not absent during the time that Lieutenant Charlton acted on the Leyden, believe that if the Admiralty are satisfied that he served on the St. Albans from 5th to 8th March in 1804 and the Pegasus from 12-19 September 1804, he may be paid at a personal rate, while borne without passing an account, while abating his pay as Lieutenant of the Zealand for the same periods.
