William Marsden. The Transport Board has forwarded correspondence about the help given the Mars transport by John McCausland, a Pilot at Plymouth and four other men. Ask how they are to be rewarded. Recommend McCausland should receive 20 guineas and his assistants, 5 guineas each. In view of the strong certificates that were produced, the Board would have paid more had they not learned that another Pilot had previously piloted the Mars into Catwater and remained on her from the 25th to the 28th January, awaiting an opportunity to take the ship further into the harbour. Mr. McCausland did not come aboard until the 28th.
