Philip Stephens. Osborne Standert has sent a certificate from Vice Admiral Shuldham of the time Lieutenant Christopher Mason acted as Commander of the Nautilus, by order of Vice Admiral Graves, during the illness of Captain Collins and has asked to be paid. How he is borne on the books. By order of August 1762, we are unable to allow pay to any Officers absent from duty for more than 6 weeks and are to bear the Acting Officer for wages from that time and allow the absent Officer half pay. If the order was not meant to extend to Officers in North America, opine Captain Collins should be paid on the books of the sloop and Lieutenant Mason by bill.
