Folios 245-247. Letter from William Powell, Clerk to the Guardians of the Newport Pagnell Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, saying that following some supposed informalities in the election of a guardian for the parish of Emberton, both candidates have withdrawn. The Commission is asked to order a new election. Enclosed is a letter dated 27 March from William Gillitt and [John Percy Johnston] to the churchwardens and overseers of the parish of Emberton stating that neither of them wish to serve in the office of guardian for the ensuing year. Also enclosed is a letter from the churchwardens and overseers of the parish of Emberton to the chairman of the Newport Pagnell board of guardians dated 30 March 1840 stating that the two persons nominated for the post of guardian having declined to act, they ask the Commission to appoint a new day for the election. Annotated: to issue a new order. Election order dated and sent 9 May 1840, six copies. Paper Number: 3594/A/1840.
