Folios 450-451. Letter from William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission. Several of the parishes in the union have new buildings which need valuing and adding to the assessment. He asks if they will sanction the expense of employing someone to do this. Annotated: Mr Lumley, [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission], advice on the best method of providing for the valuation. The only legal course is to follow proceedings under the Poor Law Amendment Act. Lumley. Paper Number: 7868/B/1841. Poor Law Union Number 334. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
