- Folio 54. Draft letter from Poor Law Board to William Rees, District Auditor, 6 Falkner Terrace, Liverpool. Acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 5 March 1851 and with reference to your request the Board do not feel called upon to express any opinion regarding the propriety of you consulting counsel on the case of law-bills being charged to the Liverpool parish, nor undertake to pay counsel's fees. It is for you to exercise best judgement and decide the matter according to the law. The statute 7 & 8 Vic c 101 makes provision for an appeal against your decision and also secures an indemnity for you against costs. Paper Number: 11252/1851. Poor Law Union Number 220. Counties: Lancashire.
