Description
Content
Folios 216-217. Letter from R M Hodge [Richard Michell Hodge], Clerk to the Guardians of the Truro Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, concerning Fanny Woolcock, a pauper who had been living with her son in St Pinnock, in the Liskeard Poor Law Union. She has claimed relief from Tregony parish, as the Liskeard Union refused her application for relief, on grounds of non-residence and recommended she went home. She is unable to maintain herself in Tregony. The Truro Union would like to make her a weekly allowance of 1s and have her live with her son. The alternative is to take her into the workhouse, which will cost twice as much. Hodge asks if the Commission will allow the Liskeard relieving officer to make the weekly allowance. Annotated: to sanction, as long as she lives with her son and to write to the Liskeard guardians to explain their mistake. W G L [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission]. Paper Number: 9502/A/1841. Poor Law Union Number 57. Counties: Cornwall.
