Folios 29-30. Letter from W Stackhouse [William Stackhouse], Trehane, Truro, to the Poor Law Commission, writing in the absence of [Robert Lampen], Vicar of Probus. Benjamin Adams has been elected governor of Probus Workhouse, subject to the Commissioner's approval. He is married, but his children are all 'placed out'. He is between 40 and 50 years old and has been a schoolmaster in St Enador. His references have already been forwarded to the Commission. Annotated: draft letter acknowledging receipt of this letter... [then mostly illegible] ... the Commissioners 'will be better able to judge him by how he performs his duties, than by his testimonials'. Poor Law Union Number 57. Counties: Cornwall.
