Description
Content
Folios 27-28. Letter from Samuel Hearle and James Dustow, Overseers of Veryan near Tregony, to the Poor Law Commission. They state that there are 17 poor children in their parish receiving permanent weekly pay. They summoned a vestry to consider placing them in apprenticeships with farmers. However, the majority of parishioners were against doing this until they had seen the new rules, about to be issued by the Commissioners, so they decided to ask their advice on how to proceed. They request an early reply and add that the magistrates were 'unwilling to bind parish apprentices'. Annotated: draft letter acknowledging receipt of their letter and informing them that the Commissioners hope to be able to consider the matter in the following week. Poor Law Union Number 57. Counties: Cornwall.
