Description
Content
Folio 5. Draft letter from the secretary to the Poor Law Commission to Robert Lampen, Vicar of Probus, confirming that his letter concerning the Probus Workhouse, currently under construction, has been put before the Commissioners. They approve of the arrangement of the premises and the methods of classifying the inmates, especially the separation of the sexes. Any future regulations from them will aid rather than interfere with the present plans, so the building may be completed. The Commission suggest that Probus unites with adjoining parishes under the provisions of the Poor Law Amendment Act, for workhouse management. This would be beneficial and serve as a good example to the rest of Cornwall. They referred to copies of the Poor Law Act and other useful information, [not included]. Poor Law Union Number 57. Counties: Cornwall.
