1 individual petition (Elizabeth Cox, the prisoner's wife) on behalf of William Cox committed to gaol in Maidstone, Kent for non-payment of £10 fine imposed for hawking without a licence on 7 December 1831 in Deptford. There is a copy of the warrant dated 1 January 1832 issued by magistrate Thomas Shipman. Grounds for clemency: While prisoner in gaol unable to support wife and 3 children, suffering poverty and distress, too poor to pay for licence or fine, good behaviour while in gaol which confirmed by letter dated 8 January 1832. Initial sentence: 3 months imprisonment. KQ 9
