1 individual petition (H Perry, victim) on behalf of William Knight convicted on 19 January 1835 [court not specified] for maliciously cutting trees belonging to H Perry. There is also a letter from Edward Pitman, Keeper at Shepton Mallet House of Correction [Somerset], confirming the expiry date of the sentence and a letter from G Burroughs, Surgeon at Shepton Mallet Gaol, stating that the prisoner spent time in hospital because he is infirm and weak. Grounds for clemency: prisoner old and in poor health so unlikely to survive period of imprisonment, prisoner's sons have asked forgiveness on behalf of father, release from prison will make prisoner better man. Initial sentence: 4 months in Shepton Mallet House of Correction. Annotated: Henry Hobhouse committing magistrate recommends discharge, free pardon. AV 44
