1 individual petition (prisoner) including 7 separate testimonies on behalf of William Doughty convicted at the Essex Lent Assizes at Chelmsford in March 1834 for burglary. Grounds for clemency: first offence, previously worked in West India Docks for 8 years from which he has excellent character references, unable to work for 12 months due to illness from which still suffering, spent 3 to 4 months in London Hospital. Gaoler's report: character good up to February 1833. Initial sentence: death commuted to life transportation. AT 15
