1 collective petition (22 inhabitants of Liverpool) on behalf of Thomas Lyon, shipwright convicted at Lancashire Quarter Sessions held at Preston in July 1827 of the theft of cottons. Grounds for clemency: labouring under a mental derangement. Asks for a pardon so prisoner can be confined safely in an asylum. Went to sea, married before he went and when he returned 11 months later found out that his wife had misconducted herself which sent the prisoner insane. Initial sentence: transportation for life.
