1 collective petition (the prisoners' parents, countersigned by the prosecutor and 3 magistrates) on behalf of Samuel Smith convicted at the Gloucester Lent Assizes 1824 of attempting to break into a dwelling house and James Smith (his brother) convicted at the same sessions of stealing a silver watch. Grounds for clemency: aged and distressed parents. Fell into evil company which caused them to commit the offences which they now view with horror. Initial sentence (in both cases) death commuted to transportation for life. Annotated: 'Nil.' MK9
