Folio 279B. Letter from W E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board. Reporting the following cases of able bodied men out of work granted temporary outdoor relief, sanction subject to approval under article 6. 1. Thomas Wright a framework knitter, wife and four children; promised work in a week. Ordered 3s and 24lbs of bread for one week. 2. William Tarr a framework knitter, wife and six children; promised work in a week. Ordered 2s and 16lbs of bread for one week. 3. Charles Marriott a framework knitter, wife and seven children; two elder children earn 2s 6d. Promised work in a few days. Ordered 2s and 24lbs of bread for one week. 4. [Charles Lills] a framework knitter, wife and five children; has been in workhouse but has been promised work. Ordered 2s 6d and 32lbs of bread for one week. 5. George Atherley a framework knitter and a man of good character and conduct has wife and six children; eldest child Nursing earns 1s weekly. Ordered 3s and 24lbs of bread for one week. Annotated: sanctioned; but advice the Poor Law Board to say that they must decline giving their sanction to the relief of any able bodied paupers out of the workhouse who are not employed under the outdoor labour test order of the 28 May 1847.
