Folio 216. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission, to R Barker [Richard Barker] and James L Barker, Clerks to the Guardians of the Tynemouth Poor Law Union, acknowledging receipt of their letter of 22 March 1838 concerning the appointment of Thomas Carr and his wife Mary Carr as Workhouse Master and Workhouse Matron of the Tynemouth Poor Law Union Workhouse. The appointment and salary are sanctioned for three months, after which the guardians are to report on the manner in which they have performed their duties and if they are suitable the appointment will be confirmed. Paper number: 2337/B/1838. Poor Law Union Number 333. Counties: Northumberland.
