Folios 214-215. A letter from R Barker [Richard Barker] and James L Barker, Clerks to the Guardians of the Tynemouth Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, concerning the appointment of a master and matron for the Tynemouth Poor Law Union workhouse following the resignation of George Sanglier and his wife. They ask the commissioners to confirm the appointment of Thomas Carr, previously a Captain of the Night Police in Newcastle upon Tyne and his wife Mary Carr, to Master and Matron of the workhouse at a salary of £60 a year. Enclosed: an extract from the minutes of the Tynemouth Poor Law Union, on 15 March 1838, to this effect is enclosed. Annotated: refer to Sir John Walsham [Assistant Poor Law Commissioner], for his opinion and sanction the appointment on a trial of three months. Paper number: 2337/B/1838. Poor Law Union Number 333.
