Folio 114. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to Joseph Lowndes, Clerk to the Guardians of the Wolstanton and Burslem Poor Law Union, in response to a letter from Lowndes sanctioning appointment of Elias Barlow as Relieving Officer at £120 per annum with maintenance for him and his wife as resident superintendent at the Wolstanton Workhouse. Also sanctions Joseph Boulton as Assistant Clerk for the present at £120 per annum, though in future only one clerk is to be appointed. Also sanctions James Clay and Samuel Malkin as Collectors for Burslem for six months at two and a half per cent of amount collected, and Henry Mattison as Collector for Wolstanton at £120 per annum salary with William Barlow as his assistant and paid by him. Paper number: 4502/C/1838. Poor Law Union Number 415. Counties: Staffordshire.
