Folio 80. Draft letter from Thomas Stevens, [Assistant Poor Law Commissioner], to Alderman Copeland MP [Stoke upon Trent], Lincoln's Inn Fields, concerning the Wolstanton memorial Paper number: 11243/C/1837, reporting that the Commissioners have reconsidered all proposals for that area and are anxious to see any system that Copeland recommends, but they regret that it would be inconsistent with their duty to allow Wolstanton to be unnunited. They see many benefits for the whole district from unification and a memorial from Newcastle under Lyme, numerously supported, requests a union of Newcastle with Audley, Betley, Keele, Great Madeley as well as Burslem and Wolstanton, or any other union the Commission cares to propose. Paper number: 70/Z/1838. Poor Law Union Number 415. Counties: Staffordshire.
