Folios 26-29. Letter from John Cooper, Curate, Burslem, and 17 others, to the Poor Law Commission, [sent via John Davenport MP for Stoke-upon-Trent at Fleet Street, London], requesting that Mr George Powell, Schoolmaster of the town, be considered for the post of Superintendent Registrar or Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths. Signed by John Cooper, John Noble, minister at St Paul's [Burslem], [J Alcock], Chief Constable of Burslem, Joseph Heginbottom, George Alcock and Joseph Wood, Churchwardens; William Walker, Thomas Hughes, Thomas Stubbs, John Dean, Samuel Alcock Overseers of the Poor; Thomas Brindley, John Wood, William Davenport, E Wood junior, Edward Wood and George Baker. Annotated: an acknowledgement to Mr Davenport for his representation: usual answers to the remainder. [Folios 26-27 are year guards etc.] Paper number: 1268/C/1837. Poor Law Union Number 415. Counties: Staffordshire.
