Individuals who have in the past given their sometimes guarded approval of the elixir: John Hume, Surgeon and Agent in Jamaica in February 1741, Vice Admiral Vernon at Jamaica in February 1741, Archibald Christie, Surgeon and Agent at Mahon, April 1742, John Stone, Surgeon and Agent at Gibraltar.
