Folios 168A-168B. Letter from Mr Hearne, Guildhall, Newport, [Isle of Wight, Hampshire], stating he was instructed to write by the magistrates and Lord Marlborough, and referring to a copy of a threatening letter [not included] received by a farmer on the eastern side of the island.
He requests that, if possible, the enclosed letter be used to trace the writer by the staff at general post office and the London Police, as there are strong reasons to believe that the organisation and instigation of some riots and protests are coming from London.
He also reports there have been three cases of burning on the island: one of a hayrick in Newport, one of a hayrick in Freshwater, and one of a threshing machine in a field in the centre of the island.
