Report of Sir James Alan Park on 2 individual petitions (the prisoner; and Stephen Abbott, hairdresser and the prisoner's brother) and 1 collective petition (22 people of Bath) on behalf of George Abbott, former sailor and George Bolling, convicted at the 'last' Somerset Assizes held at Taunton for the highway robbery of 4/- property of Jeremiah Rawlings on 27 October 1821. Evidences supplied by Jeremiah Rawlings and William Slade, night constable. There are letters from W Wilberforce, MP; John Richards, minister [x2], [Lord] Glenbervie, A Strange, [Lord] John Thynne, Charles Crook; and a statement from Thomas Webb Briscoe[?] and Stephen Abbott. Grounds for clemency: the amount of money taken was small, the prisoner has served with credit in the Royal Navy for 5 years, his brother is a respectable tradesman, the prisoner is of previous good character; the prosecutor had agreed to 'compromise' the affair for 9/-, which had been paid him. Initial sentence: death. Recommendation: transportation for life. Folios 204-225.
