Description

Aircraft at Bitteswell: Lancastrian VM.733 (AS.Sa.98/99). Canberra WV.787 (AS.Sa.123/115). Canberra WD.933 (AS.Sa.408/407) Hunter WN.889 (AS.Sa.7062). Blackburn WB.797 (DM.206). Gannet VR.557 (DM.214). Lancaster SW.342 (ASV.1). Dakota KJ.389 & Gannet WN.340 awaiting engines for new installation. Outside aircraft. Sapphire development aircraft: English Electric P.1 (SA.555/553). The second prototype Victor was completed and flown during the month. Flying this month: Victor WB.775 (AS.Sa.131/133/138/139).Vulcan VX.770 (AS.Sa.6006/6007/6008/6009). Hunter WB.202 (AS.Sa.118). Javelins WT.827 (AS.Sa.111/132); WT.830 (AS.Sa.143/140); WT.836 (AS.Sa.112/144). English Electric P.1 WG.760 (AS.Sa.556/555/553). Sapphire production aircraft: A large number of Hunters have been reported to be vibrating badly in flight. The first 5 Javelins have now commenced flying and no serious troubles have been reported. Double mamba production aircraft: AS a result of further stalling troubles at Ford with engine incorporating Mod:52, an order was issued by the Admiralty which grounded all gannets in service until the problem could be completely resolved. Development aircraft were exempt from the order, WN.373, WN.339 and WN.374 at the RAE. Python production aircraft: Further carrier trials including 27 landings and 20 catapult launchings were made on HMS Albion. Wyvern VW.884 carried out air lighting at 10,000 feet, prior to spinning trials. Viper aircraft flying this month: Provost XD.674 (ASV.1504) and Folland Midge G-39-1ASV.1522)
