Obituary - "Firm" (Worcs Regt Journal):
McLEAN. - On October 20th, 1953, at Odstock Hospital, Salisbury, Mr. (ex-Regimental-Serjt.-Major William George McLean, of Ludgershall, aged 68. Mr. McLean enlisted in the Regiment in 1900, serving with the 4th Battalion. He was a Company-Sjt-Major in the 6th Battalion when he transferred, shortly after the outbreak of the 1914-18 war, to the Machine Gun Corps in the rank of Technical Warrant Officer Class I. He left the Army in 1922 after completing 21 years’ service, and became the first steward of the Tidworth British Legion Club. He was an original member of the Salisbury Plain Area branch of the Old Contemptibles Association. His funeral, which took place at Ludgershall, was attended by a bearer party and bugler of the 1st Battalion, who sounded the Last Post. Much sympathy is extended to Mrs. McLean who at the time of her husband’s death was in Odstock Hospital suffering from a fractured leg. (Firm Vol 20 No 4 Jan 1954 p221);
