Small quarto volume, vellum bound, 133 fos., a few blank, original pagination 1-77. Inscribed at end 'The ever Honnoured and Right Worshipfull Mrs. Ellizabeth Stanley of Alderley oweth sic this Booke. July 16th 1653.'
Commences as a medical recipe book c.1620-1640 including 'The Countesse of Derbye's dyett drinke', 'Mrs. Fallow's syrup for the cold', 'Mr. Bate: his locall medicaments for the small pox', 'Mr. Crewe's receipt for Wormes', and a recipe for Mrs. Margaret Stanley, to be taken in the ear. Index, with some late 17th cent. additions, followed by cookery recipes in an 18th cent. hand, with some medical recipes for cows and swine. In reverse: cookery recipes 17th and 18th cent
