Other Data: Roll of Honour (de Ruvigny) Vol II, Sect 2, p 98 (Portrait): 3rd son of Harry Briscoe Kenny, of Clyduffe House, Rosscrea, Tipperary by his wife Elizabeth, d. of the late John Wallace of Ballincor, Shinrone, King's County; born 8/5/1895, educ The Grammar Sch, Tipperary; subs held an appointment in the Queenstown branch of the Bank of Ireland; enlisted as a Motor Despatch Rider on outbreak of war; gazetted 2Lt Jan 1915, Lieut 1917. Served BEF in F&F from Jan 1916 and was wounded at Mametz in July 1916. On recovery, attached to MGC and was KIA at Ham during the retreat from St Quentin, 24/3/18. An officer wrote" Your son Cecil who was universally loved by his brother officers and men, died fighting in an endeavour to save his gun. For 2 days he had bluffed the Boche and held their attack persuading the infantry to hold the line with him. Even when the Boche came to handgrips, he could have got away, but scorned to do so without his gun" Unmarried.
