Letter of James Lawson, Worshipful Master, Benevolent Lodge, Middleham, writing from West Witton, to James Heseltine, Grand Secretary apologising for not sending any remittances for the Hall Fund but will send a Guinea by Mr Fairbank, Staple Inn, London. Notes that William Luke Yarker, Attorney, Edward Dinsdale, surgeon, William Dinsdale, surgeon, Mr Breare, Attorney, George Harrison, mercer, George Langdale, maltster, Robert Colling, gentleman, William Myers, farmer and Mr Lupton, attorney have been admitted as members. Informs Heseltine that they follow the by laws and rules of Sea Captain's Lodge, later known as Palatine Lodge, No. 177 [SN 411], Sunderland.

Benevolent Lodge was granted a warrant by the Moderns' Grand Lodge to meet as No. 473 at the Wild Man, Middleham, Yorkshire on 1 November 1774. It was renumbered as No. 379 in 1780 and as No. 380 in 1781. The Lodge was erased on 13 February 1788.
