Telegram reads: 'All prisoners of war refuse either taking oath of allegiance or going elsewhere. Can I have permission to send them to Halifax and set them free there where there would be a Hinterland for them to disperse in lest trouble might arise from letting these fifty to sixty men loose in this small Colony. Failing reply in time I will carry out your order to turn them out 10 August'. [Printed for use of the Colonial Office, African No 685, CO 879/75/1].
