Description
Petitioners
Agnes Burdon, widow of John Burdon.
Name(s)
Burdon, Agnes
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Burdon states that the king gave the lands of Rammesey in Foulden and Carrington to her husband, and that after his death, she was seised of the same by writ of the king in name of dower until the king gave them to Comyn. And afterwards the king, at the petitioner's request granted that Comyn make compensation to her for the value of the dower, by which he commanded by his writ that the matter of the lands be enquired of. The inquisition was returned according to the tenor of the writ, and she requests that the will of the king be granted.
Nature of endorsement
Because her husband would not have been able to retain the lands if he had lived because of the agreement made between the king and Comyn, therefore she can have nothing of dower as she requested. Afterwards the king gave to her 10 marks of land for her sustenance in Polesworth for the term of her life, of which she should hold herself content.
