Description
Petitioners
Geoffrey de Walcote and Anneise (Agnes) de Walcote his wife.
Name(s)
de Walcote; de Walcote, Geoffrey; Anneise (Agnes)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Geoffrey de Walcote and Anneise his wife state that Gunnora de Valoynes, Anneise's grandmother, died seised in her demesne as in fee of the manor of Tremworth in Kent, and that Anneise was her next heir, but that Hugh le Despenser the father seized Anneise and kept her in prison until he had got the manor into his hand. He continued to keep it, wrongly, and it has now come into the king's hand. Geoffrey and Anneise ask that Anneise's inheritance might be restored to them, as they can aver by the whole country both that it is Anneise's inheritance, and that she was imprisoned as is claimed.
Nature of endorsement
People are to be assigned in Chancery to inquire, in the presence of the keeper, if Gunnora died seised in her demesne as in fee, and if Anneise is the next heir etc., and into [other] necessary articles, and orders are to be given to search Hugh's muniments to see if anything can be found which would bar their demand for the king. And when the inquisition and the search have been made and returned in Chancery, the king is to be advised.
