Description
Petitioners
Arnold (Arnaut) de Monpesat (Montpezat), esquire, of Gascony.
Name(s)
de Monpesat (Montpezat), Arnold (Arnaut)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Arnold de Monpesat makes five requests:1) He states that when the king's late uncle, the Earl of Kent, was in Gascony, he adhered to the king's father, and that he continued to serve him, and the present king; and that, when Charles de Valois was in Gascony, the King of France's people seized his lands and destroyed his castles; and they still hold them. The last agreement between the king and the King of France provided for the return of lands, and he requests special letters to the King of France, asking him to return his lands to Arnold.2) He requests compensation for his losses and damages.3) He states that, in compensation for the lands he has lost, he has been assigned certain lands of the Soudan de la Trau, whose value is not sufficient for him to maintain his estate. He asks that he might have the lands, houses and rents that belonged to Peter Viguier de la Rousselle.4) He requests the office of Mayor of Bordeaux, at pleasure, so that he cannot be removed without the king's special command.5) He asks that the Constable of Bordeaux might be ordered to pay the wages owed to him and his companions.

Note
A Latin summary of a petition from Arnold de Montpezat, asking to be made Mayor of Bordeaux, is enrolled on a roll of petitions from Easter 1328; but, as this petition is clearly from after the death of Edmund, Earl of Kent, it cannot be the one. However, it is unlikely to date from long after the Earl of Kent's death in 1330.
