Description
Petitioners
Peter (Pey, Pierre) de Seint Pol (St Pol, St Paul), citizen of Bayonne.
Name(s)
de Seint Pol (St Pol, St Paul), Peter (Pey, Pierre)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Peter de Seint Pol states that he had loaded a ship at Lynn with wools and other merchandise to go to Gravelines, to take this merchandise to Saint-Omer, four years before All Saints last, during the truce, when Flanders was in the hand of the King of France, but it was attacked at sea by people of Calais, of the company of John Pedroigue, who killed those on board and took the ship and its contents to Haut in the county of Dreux. Peter has sued to many people and in various ways for four years and more; but nothing has been done. He requests justice.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue with other merchants in the same condition in the court of the King of France, in the company of the king's messengers who are to go to those parts.

Note
CCR 1313-18 pp.181-182 is dated 16 April 1315, and suggests that the event took place in the reign of Edward I, as he wrote to ask for justice to be done on this matter. As this petition mentions a Count of Artois, rather than a Countess, it would seem to date from before the death of Count Robert in 1302.CCR 1318-23 pp.390-391 is dated 3 August 1321.
