Reference
SC 8/289/14412
Date
[1320-1327]
Description
Petitioners
John (Joan) Guntier and William (Guilhem) du Boys (Bois), merchants of Gascony.
Name(s)
Guntier; Boys (Bois), John (Joan); William (Guilhem)
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France]
London
Westminster.
Nature of request
John Guntier and William du Boys state that the king owes them £94 16s. sterling for wines taken from them for the king's household in London, as can be seen from a bill of the wardrobe dated 20 October in the king's fourteenth year. They are greatly impoverished by this debt, and ask that it might be paid.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons are to be ordered that, when they have examined the bills and searched the accounts, if they find that the king was served, they are to do what is reasonable, and if they find that the king was not served, they are to have the parties called and do justice.
Note
CCR 1330-3 p.89 is dated 20 December 1330, and seems to concern the same debt, although the sum is given there as £84 16s; and a yet later order to pay, this time the full sum of £94 16s. can be found on m. 4 of C 61/45, dated 3 August 7 Edward III (1333). This petition, however, clearly dates from the reign of Edward II, after 20 October in his king's fourteenth year (1320).
