Description
Petitioners
John Grauntpee of Coventry; Agnes Grauntpee, wife of John Grauntpee.
Name(s)
Grauntpee; Grauntpee, John; Agnes
Addressees
King and council of the present parliament.
Nature of request
The Grauntpees request that both the record of the assize of novel disseisin by which the Wymeswolds recovered lands and tenements from them in Coventry and Stretehay and Oschirch be made to come before the king and that they be examined separately concerning the erasures and amendments made by Stretehay to the record, and their answers be heard and that remedy be ordained at the king's discretion. The Grauntpees complain that true copies of the record were made of the record by Stretehay and Oschirch, the latter's copy being given to the Grauntpees by which they were advised that they could reverse the judgment because of errors and have sued by writ of error for the record with all the things touching it to be sent before the king, but the late mayor and bailiffs only set it after a writ of sicut alias and by then Stretehay by the procurement of the Wymeswolds had erased and amended the record.
Nature of endorsement
Let this petition be sent to the Bench of the king and let the chief justice and his companions there be given the power by the authority of parliament to make to come before them there the record that the petition makes mention of as Stretehay and Eschirche named in the petition and examine them of the matter comprised in the petition and hear and understand their arguments and the circumstances, and the justices are do what seems by their discretion ought to be done by the same authority.
